What Qwen does
Qwen is an open-weight (and increasingly hosted) family of large language and multimodal models built by Alibaba for developers and organizations. Alibaba describes Qwen as a family designed to support real-world decision-making and action, working across multiple information types (documents, spreadsheets, images, videos, and audio) and multiple languages.
More
Qwen models can be deployed on-premises, via Qwen’s official APIs, or through an organization’s own cloud, and can be fine-tuned with organization-specific data. The Qwen ecosystem is also tied to Alibaba Cloud’s Model Studio and Qwen Chat / Qwen Studio-style front ends for interactive use. Strategically, Qwen sits inside Alibaba’s broader AI+cloud platform strategy: Alibaba positions Qwen as a major open-sourced foundation for enterprise adoption and model/agent development, while also offering hosted “Plus/Max/Flash”-style deployments through Model Studio and Qwen Chat. This hybrid approach (open weights for the research and self-hosting community plus managed deployments for enterprises) is central to how Alibaba says Qwen is adopted at scale.
