What Graphcore does
Graphcore develops intelligence processing unit (IPU) hardware and an end-to-end software stack for training and inference of machine-learning workloads, with the goal of improving performance and efficiency versus conventional accelerator approaches. Graphcore’s programming and toolchain centers on Poplar, described by the company’s documentation as a graph-programming framework and SDK for the Graphcore IPU, designed to support ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, ONNX and others.

Graphcore also offers datacenter-scale “IPU-POD” systems and related deployment tooling (including Virtual-IPU concepts in its documentation) intended to scale from development to production environments. As of 2024-07-11, Graphcore states it was acquired by SoftBank Group Corp. and becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of SoftBank, while continuing to operate under the Graphcore name. In 2026, Graphcore’s leadership and strategy messaging continues to be framed around system-level engineering and expanding development footprint across regions, including a new AI Engineering Campus in Bengaluru.
