Lightmatter is a private photonic (super)computing company building optical interconnect and photonic engine technology intended for large-scale AI data center deployment. The company’s core positioning is that today’s AI clusters are increasingly constrained by electrical I/O bandwidth density and reach, and by scaling limits at package “shorelines” and rack faceplates; Lightmatter’s approach replaces portions of the interconnect stack with silicon-photonics and co-packaged/near-packaged optics concepts, plus dedicated light-source and packaging elements designed to scale in real data center environments.

On the interconnect side, Lightmatter markets its Passage photonic platform across multiple form factors, including Passage L20 (a bidirectional high-density near-packaged/on-board optics optical engine) and Passage reference systems such as Passage M1000 EVK. Lightmatter also builds the “light” side of the optical link with its Guide laser/light-engine products, including the Guide light engine and subsequent form factors such as Guide 1 and Guide DR (a liquid-cooled laser NIC designed around OCP NIC 3.0 dimensions). In addition to hardware, Lightmatter emphasizes ecosystem/standards alignment (for example, OCP and related open collaboration efforts) and interoperability with host technologies from other vendors and hyperscale ecosystems.
