EleutherAI (incorporated as The EleutherAI Institute) is a U.S.-based nonprofit research collective focused on open, reproducible large-scale AI research—especially open-weight model development, model and dataset evaluation, and mechanistic interpretability / training-dynamics research. The organization’s work is disseminated primarily through open-source code repositories and publicly available datasets/models on common distribution channels (for example, Hugging Face and GitHub), and through published research describing evaluation and analysis tooling.
Recent Institute-era activity (2023 onward) is reflected in its IRS filings (income/expenses and compensated staff) and in ongoing open-source library development, such as tools for interpretability and data attribution.
