What EvolutionaryScale does
EvolutionaryScale is an AI-for-science company focused on biological foundation models and generative protein design. Its core product line is ESM3, a generative protein “language model” family that (per the company) reasons over multiple protein representations—sequence, structure, and function—and is intended to enable protein engineering for research and downstream applications like therapeutic design.

The company also released ESM Cambrian, described as a parallel model family optimized for protein representation learning (as opposed to ESM3’s generative/controllable focus). EvolutionaryScale distributes its models via an API and developer platform access, and it has described partner distribution paths (including through major cloud ecosystems and inference platforms). In a later strategic transition, EvolutionaryScale’s team joined the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub in a transaction announced in early November 2025, with Alex Rives moving into Biohub leadership; as a result, EvolutionaryScale’s ongoing work is best understood through the Biohub umbrella while still referencing the original ESM/EvolutionaryScale model assets and ecosystem.
