Hugging Face is an open model and tooling platform for machine learning teams, built around the Hugging Face Hub: a centralized repository for sharing and discovering models, datasets, and “Spaces” (app-style demos). It also provides developer libraries (such as Transformers and Datasets) and hosted services to help teams train and run models in production, including Inference API/Endpoints and AutoTrain.
For enterprise users, Hugging Face sells paid offerings for private models, managed deployment, and enterprise support, while keeping the ecosystem anchored in open science and open source via the Hub. Hugging Face’s positioning is strongly “platform + developer workflow”: it attracts researchers, model builders, and enterprises by making it easy to publish assets (models/datasets), evaluate and reuse them, and deploy them with minimal friction. As of September 2026, Hugging Face has entered an announced agreement to be acquired by NVIDIA, shifting its strategic position from standalone private company toward NVIDIA’s broader AI infrastructure and open-model distribution agenda.
