Resolution is a nonprofit AI alignment research institute building theory and empirics “bets” aimed at increasing a priori confidence that aligned behavior will generalize from controlled settings to superintelligent systems. Resolution describes its core differentiation as (1) an emphasis on principled reasons for confidence—seeking theory-backed insight that alignment observed in settings we can control will hold in settings we cannot—and (2) heavy investment in automation to accelerate research progress across a portfolio of interacting alignment directions.
Resolution was formed in 2026 by researchers from Timaeus and the UK AISI Alignment Team, with an initial in-person base in the Bay Area (Berkeley) and remote research teams in multiple international locations. In addition to its technical alignment program, Resolution has also expanded into an Agent Foundations team aligned with the MIRI Agent Foundations tradition. Alongside internal hiring and publication, Resolution has publicly announced major long-horizon computing/resource commitments from philanthropic and frontier-lab support intended to fund the organization’s automation and formalization/verification-oriented research workflows.
