The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is a U.S.-based nonprofit membership federation that advances science and serves society through (1) its “Science” family of journals and related publishing programs, (2) science-policy and science-to-government fellowships, and (3) science education and public engagement initiatives. AAAS’s science-policy work includes running the AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships (STPF) and related pathways that place scientists and engineers into yearlong policy roles, along with alumni engagement programming.
In publishing, AAAS operates as the nonprofit publisher of the Science family of journals and also supports international publishing collaborations such as the Science Partner Journal (SPJ) program, which is described as leveraging AAAS’s publishing expertise and technology to help partner organizations bring research to readers.
