Speculative Technologies (spec.tech) is a U.S.-based nonprofit industrial research lab for public good that builds “missing infrastructure” for ambitious, multi-year coordinated research programs—efforts the organization says are beyond the scope of most academic labs and startups. Its model centers on (1) developing research leaders, (2) incubating coordinated research programs by placing them into an institutional “home,” and (3) building an ecosystem of tools, roadmaps, playbooks, and community so that these program structures can propagate across organizations.
