The Center for Open Science (COS) is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization focused on changing research practices so that scientific work is more open, reproducible, and reliable. COS develops and maintains the Open Science Framework (OSF) and related infrastructure to help researchers manage, collaborate on, register, and share research materials and outputs across the research lifecycle.
In parallel, COS supports “metascience” and research on scientific practices—using evidence from large-scale studies and community programs—to inform policy and norms around research transparency, integrity, and trustworthiness. Recent COS strategy centers on “Lifecycle Open Science,” emphasizing that research plans, outputs (data, materials, code), and outcomes should remain openly connected and assessable over time.
