The Center for AI Policy (CAIP) is a nonpartisan, DC-based advocacy and policy organization focused on U.S. government capacity for managing risks from advanced (“frontier”) AI systems and mitigating catastrophic risks. CAIP’s stated approach combines policy development (including model legislation), direct advocacy to lawmakers and federal agencies, and public-facing explainers and research intended to make technical AI-safety issues legible to policymakers and the public.
CAIP indicates that it worked with Congress from June 2023 through May 2025 to promote solutions to catastrophic risks from advanced AI, and that it has since ceased most active operations due to lack of funding, while continuing a grassroots Policy Advocacy Network and a legislative review service for confidential feedback on pending or draft legislation. CAIP retains its 501(c)(4) status.
