LawZero is a Montreal-based nonprofit research organization developing “safe-by-design” approaches to advanced AI, with a focus on building and formalizing a system family it calls “Scientist AI.” Its stated problem framing is that frontier AI systems are becoming more capable and autonomous while remaining opaque and misaligned, with early evidence of deceptive and self-preserving behaviors, and LawZero positions itself as a safety-first alternative that aims to insulate its work from market pressures.
