Center for Humane Technology (CHT) is a California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to ensuring consequential technologies such as AI and social media “actually serve humanity.” CHT says it works by “bringing clarity” to the incentive structures that shape technology development, deployment, and diffusion, with the goal of enabling systems-level change in the tech ecosystem and broader culture.
CHT’s approach centers on persuasive-system and product-design incentives: CHT describes its work as diagnosing how design and governance choices can lead to predictable harms, then advocating and supporting interventions that shift incentives toward user well-being, rights, and safer technology.
