Coefficient Giving is a philanthropic advisor and grantmaking organization that partners with major donors to identify and fund high-impact opportunities, with a mission of helping others “as much as we can with the resources available to us.” The organization emerged from a collaboration between GiveWell and Good Ventures, later operating as Open Philanthropy (2014–2025) before rebranding as Coefficient Giving in late 2025 to reflect its growing role supporting multiple donors.
Coefficient Giving’s work is organized into thematic funds spanning global health and wellbeing, global catastrophic risks, biosecurity/pandemic preparedness, effective giving and career support, farm animal welfare, air quality, and scientific R&D, among others. In AI safety and security specifically, the organization describes a grantmaking strategy focused on improving societal visibility into AI capabilities and risks, developing technical and policy safeguards, and investing in talent and institutional capacity. Operationally, Coefficient Giving staff (primarily at Coefficient Giving Research and at Coefficient Giving LLC) investigate opportunities, evaluate potential impact, and make grant and investment recommendations. Coefficient Giving generally does not pay grants directly; instead, its grantmaking entity and external funding partners (such as donor-advised funds and the Good Ventures Foundation) conduct formal legal due diligence and approval. By 2025–2026, Coefficient Giving reports significant scale-up in total giving and in multi-donor pooled funds (e.g., Lead Exposure Action Fund and Abundance & Growth Fund), and it continues expanding multi-donor grant programs such as the Strep A Vaccine Fund launched in 2026.
