EA Funds’ Long-Term Future Fund (LTFF) was a grantmaking fund operated within the Effective Altruism Funds (EA Funds) platform (an “Effective Ventures” project). Its mission was to fund projects aimed at improving humanity’s long-term future, with a primary emphasis on reducing catastrophic risks—especially risks from advanced AI—while also funding related longtermist field-building and community capacity work.
The fund used expert-managed grantmaking with periodic payout reports describing grant totals, acceptance rates, and (often) detailed rationales for selected grants. As of August 2026, EA Funds closed LTFF and launched the Transformative AI Fund in its stead, citing overlap of scope but presenting it as a distinct fund with a new full-time team. EA Funds’ legacy page for LTFF notes that the fund no longer accepts applications or donations.
EA Funds announced that it chose to close LTFF and launch the Transformative AI Fund to replace it, with the Transformative AI Fund having a distinct scope/team despite overlap.
LTFF and EAIF funding constrained; Open Phil matching model described (later filled)EA Forum fundraising update explaining that Open Philanthropy moved from a guaranteed funding model to temporary donation matching for LTFF and EAIF at a 2:1 rate (and a stated ceiling), and later noting that Open Phil’s matching for LTFF had been filled.
