80,000 Hours is a London-based nonprofit that conducts evidence-oriented research and provides direct career support to help people move into high-impact careers, with its current primary focus on helping people “make the transition to advanced AI go well.” It operates as a “field builder” by combining (1) long-form research and curated career guidance, (2) a podcast, (3) a job board that matches people to roles, and (4) free one-on-one advising intended to help individuals identify promising career paths and connect to opportunities.
A notable strategic feature of 80,000 Hours is that it targets both the information layer (publishing, updates, and career decision frameworks) and the talent-matching layer (via its job board and advising). Following its May 2025 spin-out, it now operates through two independent UK entities: 80,000 Hours Limited (the operating nonprofit entity housing programs) and 80,000 Hours Foundation (a registered charity that facilitates donations and owns the “80k” intellectual property).
