ERA (operating as the “Existential Risk Alliance”/“ERA Fellowship”) is a Cambridge-centered talent and research organization focused on reducing existential and global catastrophic risks from frontier AI and closely related catastrophic-risk domains (notably AI×biosecurity). Its central mechanism is a set of fully funded, in-person research fellowship programmes that combine (1) paid, mentored research projects, (2) community and conference-style outputs (e.g., symposium presentations and written deliverables), and (3) a broader ecosystem-building role through convenings and partnerships.
The organization positions itself at an intersection between technical AI safety and governance/technical governance research, emphasizing “frontier AI security” and “AI×Biosecurity” as explicit programme areas, while using its fellow pipelines to grow long-run capabilities in the field. Based on its own programme pages, ERA also runs convenings such as a Technical AI Governance Forum and maintains an institutional network for mentorship and post-fellow career placement.
