The National Institute for AI Evaluation and Security (INESIA) is a French national public initiative created to build sovereign, rigorous capabilities for evaluating advanced AI systems and addressing AI-related security and systemic risks. INESIA is described by France’s SGDSN (General Secretariat for Defence and National Security) as being under joint steering involving the Direction générale des entreprises (DGE) and the SGDSN, and as uniting major French public actors for AI evaluation and security.

SGDSN announced on 12 February 2026 that INESIA adopted its 2026–2027 roadmap, setting key orientations for the institute, including the ambition to provide France with sovereign AI evaluation capacity serving innovation and citizen protection.
Launch announcement: creation of INESIA (French Institute for AI Evaluation and Security)A February 2025 AI Action Summit press release states that on 31 January (year stated in the same release) France’s Minister for AI and the Digital Economy announced the creation of INESIA, led by SGDSN on behalf of the Prime Minister and DGE, to unite top national players to address AI challenges through research, evaluation, and international collaboration.
