Frontier Model Forum (FMF) is an industry-supported non-profit organization (501(c)(6)) dedicated to advancing frontier AI safety and security. Its mission is carried out through three core mandates: (1) identifying best practices and supporting standards development for frontier AI safety and security, (2) advancing the science of frontier AI safety and security, and (3) facilitating information sharing about frontier AI safety and security among government, academia, civil society, and industry.
The organization focuses primarily on significant public safety and security risks, including chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear (CBRN), and advanced cyber threats. FMF is led by an Executive Director (Chris Meserole) and overseen by an operating board comprised of representatives from its member organizations. In practice, FMF coordinates multi-stakeholder work across dedicated risk “workstreams” (AI-Bio, AI-Cyber, AI Security, and Frontier AI Frameworks) and publishes issue briefs, technical reports, and other materials meant to codify and disseminate emerging industry practices. FMF also runs the AI Safety Fund, a grantmaking initiative that supports independent research and evaluation methods intended to help expand the safety research ecosystem and enable more independent, standardized assessments of frontier capabilities and risks. Separately, FMF has established a narrowly-scoped, first-of-its-kind information-sharing mechanism among its member firms focused on vulnerabilities, threats, and capabilities of concern unique to frontier AI.
